French President Macron to convene with European leaders for discussions regarding Ukraine, during his stay in the UK.

In a critical meeting scheduled for July 10, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-chair a video summit aimed at bolstering Ukraine's combat capability and advancing a durable ceasefire with Russia. The discussions will take place amidst escalating tensions, stalled peace efforts, and increased missile and drone attacks by Russia.

The summit, which will also include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, will primarily focus on maintaining and supporting Ukraine's combat capability amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. A significant point of discussion will be the potential deployment of a "reassurance" or "deterrence" force in Ukraine following any ceasefire agreement.

Another key topic will be increasing pressure on Russia to accept an unconditional ceasefire, a stance Moscow has consistently refused despite ongoing peace talks and prisoner exchanges. The meeting aims to explore strategies to exert greater international pressure on Russia to bring about a lasting end to the conflict.

The meeting comes at a critical juncture, with the United States, a major military backer of Ukraine, announcing it will halt some key weapons shipments to Ukraine. This decision, coupled with the Kremlin's assertion that President Vladimir Putin will adhere to his objectives in the Ukraine conflict, underscores the urgency and complexity of the situation.

During his state visit to the United Kingdom from July 8 to July 10, Macron will receive a royal welcome and address parliament. The visit and the summit underscore the international community's commitment to supporting Ukraine in its quest for peace and security.
