French President Macron orders investigation into the female individual who referred to his wife as a male journalist.
In August 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte filed a defamation lawsuit against American blogger Candace Owens in Delaware state court. The suit accuses Owens of repeatedly and falsely claiming that Brigitte Macron was assigned male at birth.
The controversy began in March 2024, when Owens made these claims in a series of public statements. In an eight-part podcast series titled "Becoming Brigitte," she expanded on these baseless conspiracy theories. The Macrons allege that Owens launched a "campaign of global humiliation" with these false claims, causing them severe damage and public harassment.
The lawsuit includes 22 counts, including defamation and malicious falsehood. The Macrons are seeking actual, presumed, and punitive damages, as well as other remedies. Emmanuel Macron has publicly stated they sued to defend the truth after Owens' false claims gained significant traction in the U.S.
Owens, however, has publicly rejected the lawsuit's legitimacy and doubled down on her claims, vowing not to "shut up" despite the legal action against her. The Macrons' legal counsel describes the lawsuit as a last resort after attempts to correct Owens' falsehoods were ignored.
The investigation into Owens' activities, conducted by specialists, has examined her connections with politicians in France, the U.S., and the U.K., as well as mentions in Russian media. Owens has questioned the amount of money spent on the investigation, stating that out of 12,704 tweets, she retweeted a Russian philosopher twice.
This is not the first time the Macrons have taken legal action against individuals who publicly suggested Brigitte's male gender. The allegations about the Macrons being related by blood and the CIA experiment are new additions to the lawsuit. If proven false, these new allegations could have significant implications for the Macron family's reputation.
As of now, the case is active since the complaint was filed in July 2025, with no finalized resolution reported yet.
