In the video, which rapidly spread online, Brigitte can be seen extending her arms as her husband navigates the plane steps. At first, the Ely seee disputed the video's authenticity. However, after being contacted by French public radio Franceinfo, the French presidential office validated the footage as genuine.

Downplaying the incident's significance, Emmanuel Macron stated that he and his wife were engaged in joking antics before commencing their official engagements in Vietnam. He described the circumstances as lighthearted and alluded to the incident being blown out of proportion, referring to it as a "geo-planetary catastrophe."

Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron tied the knot in 2007, having known each other as he was a student at the school where she taught.
