Freiburg's outdoor pools delay opening due to chilly spring weather

Freiburg’s outdoor swimming pools will open later than planned this year. The start date has shifted from May 14 to May 23 due to cold weather. Two popular pools, Lorettobad and St. Georgen, will welcome swimmers from that Saturday onward. Unseasonably low temperatures and persistent poor weather during the 'Ice Saints' period forced the delay. Instead of opening on May 14, the pools will now start operating on May 23. Both Lorettobad and St. Georgen will then be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For those eager to swim sooner, options remain available. Westbad will continue running its outdoor and indoor facilities without interruption. The heated outdoor pool at Strandbad also stays open for early-season swimmers. The operator has asked visitors to check its website for the latest updates. Any further changes to schedules or opening times will be posted there.

The revised opening date means Freiburg’s main outdoor pools will launch a week behind schedule. Daily hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. will apply once they reopen. Swimmers can still use Westbad and Strandbad until then.
