Freiburg's late-night transport faces delays for daylight saving time
Public transport in Freiburg will face temporary changes in late March 2026 due to the switch to daylight saving time. The adjustment will disrupt night services, affecting trams and buses across the city. Other regions, including the VVS area and Berlin, are also preparing similar modifications for their late-night transport. The transition to daylight saving time on Sunday, March 29, 2026, will shorten the night by one hour. As a result, Freiburg's tram lines 1, 3, 4, and 5 will pause operations between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM. Passengers relying on these routes during that window will need to plan alternative travel.
Night bus services will also see alterations. On line N40, several early-morning trips will be cancelled, with the first regular departure leaving at 3:10 AM. Line N41 will skip one scheduled run, with the next available connection at 3:40 AM. Additionally, digital displays in the VAG Freiburg app or at stops may temporarily show incorrect times following the change. The VVS region and Berlin are making similar adjustments. In the VVS area, night buses and regional trains will adapt their schedules to account for the shorter night. Berlin's S9 line will also modify its late-night timetable to align with the time shift.
The changes aim to keep services running smoothly despite the lost hour. Passengers in Freiburg, the VVS region, and Berlin should check updated schedules before travelling. Transport operators have advised allowing extra time for journeys during the transition.
