SC Freiburg vs. Salzburg Without Rosenfelder - Freiburg’s Europa League test: Lienhart returns as Rosenfelder sits out

SC Freiburg will face RB Salzburg in the Europa League without key defender Max Rosenfelder. A thigh muscle tear has sidelined him for the match. The club also confirmed his absence from the final two Bundesliga games of the year.

Philipp Lienhart, however, has recovered from injury and is set to return for the crucial European fixture.

Rosenfelder suffered the thigh injury in training, ruling him out of Freiburg’s upcoming fixtures. He will miss the Europa League clash with Salzburg as well as the Bundesliga matches against Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg. His absence leaves a gap in the centre of defence.

In better news for the team, Lienhart has been declared fit after his own injury spell. The Austrian defender is expected to start against Salzburg, pairing with Matthias Ginter at the back. His return provides a much-needed boost ahead of a high-stakes encounter.

Freiburg currently sit in the Europa League group stage, aiming for a top-eight finish. A strong result against Salzburg would secure direct qualification for the round of 16, avoiding the knockout round playoffs.

The match against Salzburg will test Freiburg’s defensive resilience without Rosenfelder. Lienhart’s return offers stability, but the team must adapt quickly. Their performance in the final group game will determine whether they advance directly to the next stage.
