Freiburg's Culture-Soli Fund Opens Doors for Local Artists and Performers
Freiburg's Department of Culture has opened applications for the new Culture-Soli funding scheme. Artists and cultural creators based in the city can now request financial support for a wide range of projects. The initiative aims to boost local arts by prioritising revivals and guest performances from independent theatre and dance groups.
The funding covers five key areas: film, arts education, cultural access initiatives, music, and street art and nightlife culture. Eligible applicants must have Freiburg as their primary place of work. Projects with a strong artistic profile—such as independent films, youth-focused initiatives, and concerts—will receive particular attention.
Priority will go to independent theatre and dance companies that secured project funding between 2021 and 2026. These groups can apply for Culture-Soli support to stage encore performances or tour as guests. However, no public records specify how many such companies currently qualify.
Applications close on May 1, later than the initially announced March 15 deadline. Funding decisions will follow criteria set by the city council, with input from external expert juries. To assist applicants, the Department of Culture is offering advance online consultations, especially for those applying for the first time.
The Culture-Soli scheme expands funding opportunities for Freiburg's cultural sector. Independent artists and established companies alike can now seek support for revivals, tours, and new projects. Successful applicants will receive backing based on artistic merit and alignment with the city's cultural goals.
