Freiburg braces for weekend protests on climate, Gaza and conscription

Freiburg is set for a busy weekend of protests and rallies, with several events planned across the city. The city has warned of potential road closures and parking disruptions along the routes.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday, November 14, a demonstration for the International Climate Strike will commence at 6:00 PM at Platz der Alten Synagoge. Around 600 participants are expected to march through Werthmannstraße, Rempartstraße, Talstraße, and Kaiserbrücke, wrapping up by 10:00 PM.

Earlier that day, a stationary rally against the reintroduction of military conscription and far-right tendencies will take place from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Mensagarten on Rempartstraße, with approximately 20 attendees.

On Saturday, November 15, an event titled 'Freedom for Gaza' is scheduled. An information stand will be set up from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Platz der Alten Synagoge, followed by a protest march starting at 2:00 PM. Around 1,000 participants are expected. The march route will pass through Rotteckring, Friedrichring, and Kaiser-Joseph-Straße before returning to the starting point.

Additionally, a smaller rally regarding the EU-Mercosur trade agreement is planned for Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Augustinerplatz.

The city of Freiburg urges residents and visitors to be aware of potential traffic disruptions and road closures along the protest routes this weekend. While parking garages will generally remain accessible, short-term closures may occur. The city asks for understanding and cooperation as it accommodates these events.
