Snow expected in MV before freezing rain - Freezing temperatures and icy roads hit northern Germany this week

Cold weather will grip Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania over the coming days. The German Weather Service (DWD) has warned of freezing temperatures, scattered snow, and icy roads. Residents should prepare for difficult travel conditions by Monday evening.

A light dusting of snow may appear in some areas early on Monday. By midday, scattered snowfall could bring up to 2 centimetres in places. These wintry showers will spread across parts of the region.

Later in the afternoon, freezing rain is expected near the Schleswig-Holstein border. This icy mix will then move eastward, making roads treacherous. DWD climatologist Walter noted that overnight lows could drop into double-digit negatives. Temperatures will rise slightly during the day, reaching highs between -4°C and -1°C. Despite this small increase, the cold snap will persist, with hazardous conditions likely by evening.

The DWD has urged caution for drivers and pedestrians alike. Icy patches and freezing rain will create slippery surfaces on untreated roads. The common cold is set to continue, with no immediate sign of a significant warm-up.
