Freeway Rest Area Halted by Flaming Truck Trailer
A significant incident graced the Muldental Süd service area on the A14 in Grimma, Saxony, at dawn's break. The unfortunate event involved a truck trailer that burst into flames.
At approximately 5:30 AM, a Polish truck driver detected a whiff of smoke from his trailer. With quick thinking, he steered his truck into the rest area's parking lot and detached the tractor unit just in time.

Within mere seconds, the road salt-laden trailer was engulfed in flames. As reported by incident commander Daniel Klemm from the Grimma fire department, "Upon arrival, the chassis of the trailer was completely enveloped in flames."
Luckily, the driver managed to escape unharmed and promptly. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the inferno, preventing its spread. As a token of gratitude, the truck driver (who is also a firefighter) bestowed upon the fire department his fire station's mascot.
Probable cause of the fire? A blown tire. The extinguishing efforts led to the A14 rest area's closure in the direction of Dresden. Recovery operations and cleanup efforts should persist into the morning, rendering the area inaccessible until then.
Another truck fire broke out on the A4, heading towards Dresden near Chemnitz. Highway closures ensued during the fire suppression efforts, resulting in a traffic backup of over 8 kilometres. Motorists should brace themselves for additional disruptions.
