The Freestyle Chess World Championship will return to Weissenhaus in 2027. This time, the event will feature both men's and women's tournaments for the first time. The championship follows Magnus Carlsen's victory in the inaugural edition held in 2026.

The 2026 championship saw Magnus Carlsen claim the title after defeating Fabiano Caruana in the final. That event took place from February 13–15, 2026, establishing Weissenhaus as the host location.

In 2027, the men's tournament will run from February 12–14. A separate women's tournament will be held earlier, from February 5–7. This marks the first time a dedicated women's competition has been included alongside the men's event.

The 2024 championship, also in Weissenhaus, confirmed the venue's popularity, though participant numbers from that year remain unconfirmed. Organisers have now expanded the format to ensure broader representation in the sport.

The 2027 Freestyle Chess World Championship will feature two distinct tournaments, offering more opportunities for players. The event builds on the success of previous editions, with Weissenhaus continuing as the host. Carlsen's 2026 win set a high standard for future competitions.
