Free Writing Session for Musical Composition: FAWM 2019 (February Album Writing Month)
Jump on the February Album Writing Month (FAWM) bandwagon this year, will ya? It's a fun and challenging online songwriting workshop, complete with a kick-ass community.
Got your attention, right? FAWM sets participants the goal of penning a whopping 14 songs during the 28 (or 29 in leap years) days of February. That's some serious song-creating, folks!
Now, if composing a song every two days sounds like a daunting task for a non-professional songwriter, you're not alone. But trust me, it's a hoot!
You see, songwriting for most folks means huddling up alone in a room with their guitar, piano, notebook, and maybe a feline companion, right? So, meeting fellow songwriters from across the globe during FAWM is nothing short of exhilarating!
FAWM provokes me to tackle aspects of songwriting that I usually ignore, like actually hitting that record button and sharing my creations with the world, instead of hoarding them in notebooks and hard drives.
This year, I'm jumping at FAWM 2019 as an opportunity to dust off those "great ideas" that have been gathering cobwebs in my notebooks and audio files for months.
Wanna join me? Check out my FAWM profile here on the FAWM website. Let's jam together!
By the way, did you hear Matt Blick's John Lennon Blues? He wrote it during FAWM 2018. It's the opener on his new baritone guitar and voice album, Fifty Five Stories Down. Fail to check it out, and you'll miss out on some top-notch music!

FAWM stands out from the crowd as a distinct and engaging songwriting challenge. It's similar to other month-long creative projects like NaNoWriMo, but with a focus on music. Here are some aspects that make FAWM special:
- Time Crunch: The tight deadline of 28 (or 29) days pushes participants to be creative and productive quickly.
- Community Support: The event fosters a strong sense of community among participants, with artists sharing their work, providing feedback, and supporting each other.
- Creative Diversity: The strict time frame encourages experimentation and innovation, often pushing participants beyond their comfort zones.
- Personal Growth: The challenge offers opportunities for personal growth and learning, allowing participants to develop new skills, explore different songwriting styles, and refine their craft under pressure.
- Inspiration and Motivation: The structured framework of FAWM acts as a catalyst for creativity and productivity, helping artists to focus on their craft and produce a significant body of work in a short period.
In a nutshell, FAWM is a unique chance for songwriters to challenge themselves creatively, build a community, and generate a substantial amount of music in a short span.
