Free E-Bike Safety Courses Launch for Seniors in 2026
Recklinghausen Police and local adult education centres are teaming up to offer free safety training for riders of motor-assisted bicycles. The courses target people aged 60 and over, aiming to improve their confidence and skills on pedelecs and e-bikes. Sessions will take place across several cities in the first and second half of 2026. The training combines classroom learning with practical exercises on a specially designed skills course. Most sessions will run from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, though the Dorsten-Wulfen course is scheduled from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Confirmed dates for early 2026 include March 1 in Haltern am See, April 1 in Oer-Erkenschwick, Castrop-Rauxel, and Waltrop, followed by May 1 in Recklinghausen, Dorsten-Wulfen, Dorsten, and Marl. Provisional dates for later in the year are set for August 1 in Herten and September 1 in Recklinghausen, with additional sessions planned in Bottrop, Gladbeck, and Datteln—though exact dates are still to be announced. Participants must bring their own roadworthy pedelec or e-bike, a bicycle helmet, and weather-appropriate clothing. Booking is required through the local adult education centre (Volkshochschule) of their city.
The free courses provide older riders with both theory and hands-on practice. Organisers hope the training will enhance safety and comfort for those using motor-assisted bicycles. Full details and registration are available through the relevant Volkshochschule offices.
