Free detectors shield rural families from deadly carbon monoxide risks

A safety campaign in the Jetysu region is helping vulnerable families avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Free detectors have been installed in homes, alongside chimney checks, to reduce risks from winter heating. Residents in Araltobe village have already expressed relief at the added protection.

Thousands of rural households in the region rely on wood and coal stoves for heating. Without access to natural gas, these families face higher risks of fire and carbon monoxide exposure. The invisible, odourless gas can be deadly even in small amounts, making early detection critical.

The safety checks and free installations have brought peace of mind to many in Araltobe and surrounding villages. With winter heating risks reduced, fewer families now face the silent threat of carbon monoxide poisoning. The programme continues to expand, targeting those most at risk in rural areas.
