Ex-AfD Chairwoman Frauke Petry Courtin' a New Political Party
Frauke Petry to Establish a New Political Party - Frauke Petry proposes establishing a new political party.
Looks like ex-intense AfD leader Frauke Petry is gearing up to launch a brand-new political shindig! In a chinwag with Welt, she spilled the beans about her vision for this fresh party, hinting at a possibly strong presence in state elections as early as 2026. To get things rolling, "Team Freedom" crew and she's been kicking it off for a few months now.
While she ain't dropping the party's name just yet, the ideological slant is already on the table. Petry considers the underlying split in the political scene as not between the CDU and AfD, but within the void of a feisty, anti-authoritarian, and liberty-embracing contender. Expect a revival of cultural bonds with the West and an anti-authoritarian alternative for the current political scenery. To top it off, she's aiming to whittle down the state's piece of the economic pie from around 50% to a quarter within five jazzed-up years!
"There ain't no party that has this goal and craves the freedom to speak," she said.
Frauke Petry Bids Adieu to AfD in '17
Petry, a former chemistry whiz, co-founded the AfD alongside Bernd Lucke and the gang. However, she called it quits after the '17 federal elections due to internal tiffs. She put the blame down on the dominant far-right clique helmed by Thuringia's AfD state chair, Björn Höcke.

After bidding goodbye to the AfD, Petry functioned as an independent member of parliament until '21. During this stint, she also established the Blue Party, which, unfortunately, bit the dust at the end of '19 following dismal election results in Saxony and Thuringia.
Now, Petry seems eager to start fresh. "We're going ahead with the upcoming state elections, starting with Baden-Württemberg," she shared. This party, apparently, has a novel feature of handpicking winning candidates from among independent citizens and entrepreneurs who haven't been tainted by the political quagmire, thus serving the 98% of citizens who refuse to tether themselves to any party.
