Franklin's First Costco Opens This November in Milwaukee County
Franklin, Wisconsin, is set to welcome its first Costco warehouse store—the first in Milwaukee County. The new location will replace the former 41 Twin Outdoor Theatre, which was demolished to clear space for the development. City officials and company executives have both expressed enthusiasm for the project.
Plans for the Franklin Costco were approved last autumn, with an opening scheduled for November. The site will feature a 12-pump petrol station and 868 parking spaces alongside the main warehouse. Mayor John Nelson thanked the Costco team for selecting the area, calling it a significant addition to the community.
Costco’s membership model remains central to its operations. Basic plans start at around $65 per year, while the Executive tier costs $130 and includes extra benefits. To prevent card sharing, the company has begun installing scanners at store entrances. Even outdoor food courts now require membership verification, restricting non-members from purchasing the famous $1.50 hot dog and drink combo. The retailer’s ‘treasure hunt’ strategy also sets it apart. Executives describe the constantly changing aisle layouts as a way to encourage shoppers to explore and discover new products.
The Franklin Costco will mark the company’s first presence in Milwaukee County. Mayor Nelson hopes the development will draw further investment to the area. With construction underway, the store is expected to open its doors to members this November.
