Frankie Dettori’s farewell tour ends with a legendary race in Rio de Janeiro

Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori has extended his farewell tour with a final series of races in South America. Originally set to retire after Chile’s Valparaiso Sporting, he will now conclude his career beneath Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue. The decision follows an outpouring of support from fans across the continent.

Dettori and his wife Catherine arrived in Argentina this week ahead of his first stop at San Isidro, home to the region’s most prestigious race. The Argentine racing community has welcomed the chance to see him compete in their flagship event. From there, he will travel to Uruguay for the Gran Primo Internacional before reaching Brazil.

The Rio de Janeiro International Turf Classic will now serve as Dettori’s definitive retirement race. His presence is set to draw record crowds, with organisers and fans alike eager to witness his final moments in the saddle. The event will close a chapter under one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks.
