Noise due to disaster response drill in Frankfurt - Frankfurt's massive civil defence drill begins this weekend at Griesheim

A large civil defence exercise will take place at Frankfurt's former Griesheim industrial park this weekend. The drill runs from Friday at 2 p.m. until Sunday at 2 p.m., with multiple emergency services involved. Residents nearby should prepare for some disruptions.

The exercise will see two Bundeswehr helicopters in action throughout the weekend. These will operate from Friday afternoon until the same time on Sunday. Noise from the aircraft and increased movement of emergency vehicles are expected.

Eight organisations are taking part, including the Bundeswehr, ASB, DRK, and THW. The drill marks the first major civil defence exercise of its kind in the past five years. No other German region has held a similar large-scale event in a former industrial area during this period.

The drill will test coordination between military and civilian emergency teams. Local residents may notice temporary noise and traffic changes. Authorities have confirmed the exercise will end by Sunday afternoon.
