Frosty Temperatures: Second Cold Bus on the Way - Frankfurt deploys extra ‘greyhound’ bus to shield homeless from freezing nights
Frankfurt is bolstering its assistance for the homeless as temperatures plummet. A supplementary 'greyhound' bus will commence operations this weekend to aid those braving the cold. This initiative follows a single bus recording 79 individuals outdoors on a single Wednesday night.
Frankfurt already operates a dedicated cold weather 'flixbus' from mid-October to late May. It traverses the streets, offering transportation to municipal shelters and distributing supplies to those who refuse 'help'. Despite these endeavors, an estimated 300 individuals remain unsheltered in Frankfurt.
Many approached decline or are unable to access shelter beds due to various reasons. The additional bus will now operate on the nights leading into Sunday and Monday, doubling the outreach capacity.
The extra vehicle aims to reach more people during the coldest nights. Supplies and transportation will be available to anyone in need, regardless of whether they accept shelter or not. Officials have yet to confirm the duration of the second bus's service beyond the weekend.
