Hundreds of Extras Test Operations at New Airport Terminal - Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 3 to Launch April 23 with 19M Passenger Capacity
Frankfurt Airport is preparing to open its new Terminal 3 on April 22. The first flights from the facility will take off the following day, on April 23. Designed to handle around 19 million passengers each year, the terminal is now undergoing final operational tests with volunteers.
Trials for the new terminal began with up to 1,000 participants, including tech-savvy travellers and older passengers. These tests, held every Tuesday and Thursday, cover key processes like baggage drop-off, check-in, and security checks. Over 8,000 extras and employees will take part before the official launch.
Airlines currently operating from Terminal 2 will move to Terminal 3 in four phases by summer. Carriers from alliances led by British Airways, Air France-KLM, Etihad, and Emirates will relocate there. Meanwhile, members of the Lufthansa-led Star Alliance will stay in Terminal 1. Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport, has assured passengers that the new terminal will offer seamless procedures and modern amenities. The facility aims to improve efficiency and comfort for millions of travellers annually.
Terminal 3 will begin operations with its first flights on April 23. The phased relocation of airlines from Terminal 2 will continue through the summer. Once fully operational, the new terminal will significantly expand Frankfurt Airport's capacity.
