France's rugby sevens teams secure fifth-place finishes in New York ahead of Hong Kong

France's men's and women's rugby sevens teams wrapped up a strong showing in New York over the weekend. Both squads won all their classification matches on Sunday, securing fifth-place finishes in their respective tournaments. Their next challenge will be the upcoming Hong Kong leg of the World Championship qualifiers.

The men's team improved on their sixth-place result from Vancouver by finishing fifth in New York. They kicked off the day with a commanding 36–5 victory over Spain. Later, they staged a late comeback against New Zealand to clinch the final position.

The women's side also ended the tournament in fifth place. They secured wins against Canada and Japan in their classification matches.

In the overall Sevens Series standings, the French women currently hold fourth place, while the men sit fifth. Both teams will now prepare for the Hong Kong event, scheduled from April 17–19. This tournament marks the first of three World Championship qualifiers.

France's consistent performance in New York keeps them in contention for higher rankings. The Hong Kong leg will be crucial as they aim to strengthen their positions in the Sevens Series. Both teams enter the next phase with momentum after a successful weekend.
