United Forces Demand Ukraine-Russia Ceasefire: USA Steps In

France's President Macron announces that the United States will be keeping a watchful eye on the truce in Ukraine.

Leaders from Germany, France, Poland, and the United Kingdom, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Labour Leader Keir Starmer, are united in their push to bring peace to Ukraine. The group has secured US President Trump's support in enforcing a 30-day ceasefire in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, with the United States to oversee the truce.

At a press conference, Emmanuel Macron announced that the ceasefire would primarily be monitored by the USA. Macron, Merz, Starmer, and Tusk emphasized that Europeans would also contribute, as part of a coalition of the willing. Ukraine and its European allies have been demanding an unconditional, 30-day ceasefire from Russia, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating, "We know that the United States of America supports us." In response, Ukraine has threatened to impose escalated sanctions on Russia's energy and banking sectors if a ceasefire is not agreed upon.

Discussions concerning armor-piercing Taurus cruise missiles with Ukrainian leadership have been conducted privately, as per the instruction of Merz, who will no longer make public announcements about specific weapons deliveries. Merz is open to a potential phone call with Putin provided that it aligns with coordination between European partners and the USA.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated, "For the first time in a long time, we have the feeling that the entire free world is truly united." The joint effort to reach a ceasefire and resume peace talks is being spearheaded by US President Trump, Ukraine, and supporters from the international community. Francia's President Macron has also pledged robust security guarantees for Ukraine.

However, Russia is hesitant about the ceasefire proposal, citing ongoing arms deliveries to Ukraine as a concern. Moscow feels that ceasefire would offer Ukraine an advantage, allowing them to mobilize resources, train personnel, and rest current troops. Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, stated, "Why should we give Ukraine such an advantage?" If Russia does not agree to the truce, the West has promised to intensify sanctions.

Russia has shown resilience to previous sanctions and has adapted to their impact. Despite economic challenges, Russia continues to generate income from oil and gas sales, providing the necessary resources to sustain its war economy. A three-day ceasefire, announced by Russia to commemorate the end of World War II, is currently in effect but has been repeatedly breached by both sides.
