In a series of announcements made over the past few days, France, Germany, and Jordan have declared their intention to establish an air bridge for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. This joint international effort aims to address the most urgent needs of the civilian population in the region.

The aid deliveries, which are expected to commence in the coming days, will include food and medical supplies. France, in particular, has advocated for aid deliveries both by air and truck, considering the truck deliveries to be the "most efficient solution."

Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) will coordinate with France and the UK in this endeavour. The air bridge operation, however, should not replace the urgent increase in aid deliveries through Israel's opening of border crossings.

It is important to note that the air bridge for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip is an additional effort alongside the planned aid deliveries by air and truck. As of late July 2025, international air bridge operations for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip have been initiated primarily through coordinated airdrops and aid convoys facilitated by Israel's military and international partners.

Germany, along with Jordan, will also establish an air bridge for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. While foreign militaries such as the UAE have conducted airdrop operations of humanitarian aid approved by the Israeli Air Force, France, Germany, or Jordan are not explicitly mentioned among these countries engaging in air bridge or airdrop missions.

The United Nations has developed plans to scale up humanitarian aid in Gaza during ceasefires or pauses, but implementation faces major obstacles like security threats to aid workers, logistical challenges, and damage to infrastructure. This hinders the establishment of consistent air bridge or corridor operations, regardless of country involvement.

The air bridge for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip will be carried out with utmost caution for the safety of the population. The aid deliveries are being organized by France, and the operation is part of a joint international effort to address the most urgent needs of the civilian population.
