Foxes Sign Tracker Following Lynx's Sentinel's Departure
The Minnesota Lynx are making moves to strengthen their roster ahead of their highly anticipated rematch against the New York Liberty, a repeat of last year's WNBA Finals.
The most significant recent change for the Lynx is the acquisition of guard DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings just before the August 8th trade deadline. Carrington, known for her defensive skills and playoff experience with Connecticut, was traded to the Lynx in exchange for forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson (who has a season-ending foot injury), and a 2027 second-round draft pick. This trade bolsters Minnesota's wing depth and defensive versatility, especially important with injuries to key players like Samuelson and Napheesa Collier.
In her second game with the Minnesota Lynx, Carrington contributed 12 points, two rebounds, two steals, and a block. She showed her shooting prowess, going 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. Carrington's debut with the team saw her score 13 points.
The Lynx have also signed guard Jaylyn Sherrod, formerly of the Liberty. Sherrod, 23, was waived earlier in August after playing 28 games with the Liberty in the season. Her signing adds backcourt depth for the Lynx just before the rematch. Sherrod shot 38.2% from the field and 29.4% from three-point range during her time with the Liberty.
Injuries have impacted the Lynx's roster, with Karlie Samuelson and Napheesa Collier both sidelined due to season-ending foot and ankle injuries, respectively.
The Lynx have had some off-season changes as well. GM Clare Duwelius and assistant coach Katie Smith left the team, replaced by Eric Thibault and Lindsay Whalen. The Lynx also signed rookie Anastasiia Kosu, who made the opening day roster.
The Minnesota Lynx have been on a winning streak, having won their last four games and currently holding the WNBA's best record at 26-5. They won the first meeting of the season between the two teams on July 30, defeating the Liberty 100-93.
The rematch between the Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty will take place on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
