Foxes inched ever closer to their ambitious objective
The Berlin Foxes inaugurated an impressive victory over MT Melsungen, bolstering their quest for the club's first Handball Bundesliga championship. In a hard-fought encounter at the Max-Schmeling-Hall, the Foxes clinched a convincing 37:29 win, leaving the champagne on ice for a potential title celebration.
Strong supporter cheers of "Oh, how beautiful it is" accompanied the Foxes players as they embraced each other, inching closer to their long-awaited title with three games remaining on the schedule. In a stunning performance, World Handball player Mathias Gidsel scored 15 goals, leading the Foxes to a 52:10 point tally atop the standings — keeping pace for an historic club triumph.
"I'm mega happy," Gidsel stated after the game, "This victory means a lot for the club and the team. Now we have all the chances for the championship. If we play 100 percent, we are absolutely the best team."
The win looms large as the Foxes face stiff competition from below. The defending champion SC Magdeburg, closely followed by MT Melsungen, lurk in the championship fray, eager to snatch the title from the capital city team. "The MT Melsungen and us have earned the right to play a top game at the end of the season," explained Foxes coach Jaron Siewert prior to the game. The encounter marked Carsten Lichtlein's return to the Melsunger bench, who stepped in as goalkeeper due to Nebojsa Simic's injury, facing off against his nephew, Foxes playmaker Nils Lichtlein.
Initially, the game developed into an evenly matched contest, with the Berlin defense standing tall while goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev demonstrated top-form. Melsunger circle runner Adrian Sipos expressed frustration during halftime, acknowledging the gap between the two teams needed to close speedily. Yet, the Foxes failed to be tamed, emerging victorious thanks to Gidsel's unyielding determination.
To this day, the clubs mentioned have not secured the top spot, but a thrilling climax anticipates in the final sprint of the season. As the Foxes continue their charge towards the championship, fans await every step of the way in the hope of witnessing their city's first Bundesliga title.
