Foxes in Duisburg Transform into Black Tigers
In an exciting development for the German ice hockey scene, two 18-year-old defensemen, Alp Karota and Joris Hagner, have joined forces at GSC Moers. Both players honed their skills at Düsseldorf EG before moving to Duisburg in the same year as Hagner.
The duo will be splitting their time between the DNL juniors, the Young Foxes, and the Black Tigers in the regionalliga. This dual commitment offers them a unique opportunity to balance their youthful exuberance with the demands of senior ice hockey.
As the home rink on Filder Street undergoes renovation, the Black Tigers are hopeful that they will be able to return to their home ice in the last week of September.
Joris Hagner, listed with a "Förderlizenz" in the defense lineup, comes to GSC Moers with a promising background, although specific details about his previous ice hockey experience are scarce. Prior to joining GSC Moers, Hagner played for Herner EV and EV Duisburg.
Alp Karota, who was sponsored by EV Duisburg, also boasts an impressive resume. Last season, he scored nine points in 28 games, and his strengths include a good overview on the ice, secure build-up play, and precise first pass. As an offensive defenseman, Karota aims to set impulses to help the team.
The current GSC Moers squad is a formidable one, with goalies Tatjana Pfeifer, Philipp Nikolic, and Patrick Klein; defenders Lars Ehrich, Philipp Hoth, Pascal Fischer, Tobias Esch, Niklas Cremer, Alp Karota, and Joris Hagner; and forwards Leon Taraschewski, Florian Stehr, Jan Theuerkauf, Julius Bauermeister, Tristan Pfeifer, Sebastian Pfeifer, and Marc Schaub.
Karsten Holderberg, the Black Tigers' sports director, is thrilled about the opportunity for Alp and Joris, top talents from Duisburg, to continue developing in the regionalliga. The team is currently in the process of distributing sponsorship licenses for the upcoming season, with two out of five already allocated. One of the remaining licenses for field players will be given to a fourth goalkeeper.
The Black Tigers will be testing their mettle against the U20 from Essen on September 7th and 14th, and against league rival Bergisch Gladbach on October 4th. The team of coach Max Eberlein will have one ice training session per week in Duisburg during the preparation, starting in early September.
Both Alp Karota and Joris Hagner are eager to contribute to the success of GSC Moers and are looking forward to the regionalliga season, with Hagner aiming to learn a lot and continue developing.
The young defensemen, Alp Karota and Joris Hagner, are set to participate in both the DNL juniors, the Young Foxes, and the Black Tigers' regional league games, allowing them to balance their energy while meeting the demands of senior ice hockey. As Hagner joins GSC Moers with a "Förderlizenz" in the defense lineup, he brings a promising background from his past teams, Herner EV and EV Duisburg, to the current formidable GSC Moers squad.
