Fox News discusses "Perspectives from Abroad" with Merz as the guest

In an interview with the conservative US news channel, Fox News, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz made it a point that "Germany's a damn solid democracy." He downplayed Donald Trump's observation that the Ukraine war wouldn't have commenced under his administration, simply stating it as "speculation."

In contrast to previous remarks about the AfD and freedom of speech, Merz acknowledged the ongoing freedom of speech and parliamentary participation in Germany. He insisted that they don't need any advice from external sources, giving a blunt, "Nope, not our cup of tea."

When discussing the Russian attack on Ukraine, Merz mentioned that bringing Moscow to the negotiating table was a daunting task, expressing his hopes to gain Trump's support in pressuring Russia to cease aggression.

Regarding the escalating number of anti-Semitic incidents in Germany, Merz attributed the issue to a surge in imported anti-Semitism, due to the wave of migrants since 2015. He emphasized that the authorities relentlessly pursue those who violate the law.

Interestingly, "imported anti-Semitism" has been named the "Unword of the Year" by a panel of jury members, according to recent reports from the "Unword of the Year" institution [1]. This term is often used by right-wing circles to divert attention from their own anti-Semitism and exclude Muslims and migrants from discussions.

  2. The escalating number of anti-Semitic incidents in Germany, as attributed to imported anti-Semitism by Friedrich Merz, has been labeled the "Unword of the Year", raising concerns about the use of such terminology in political discourse, and its potential for exclusion and misdirection in discussions around policy-making, including employment and community policies.
