Four angelic souls gracefully departed from this world in the tragic collision, leaving their families and peers devastated. Their identities were revealed as Rylee Britton, 18; Ainsley Johnson, 8; Alma Buhnerkempe, 7; and Kathryn Corley, 7. Ainsley’s dear father, Todd, confirmed her passing, and Alma's mom, Billie, described her as a "ray of sunshine" who loved her family and activities such as soccer, basketball, and gymnastics.

Sadly, six other children were also harmed in the accident. Remarkably, one survivor was fortunate enough to be treated and released from the Hospital Sisters Health System. The remaining five victims were hospitalized, with one still battling the brink of critical condition.

Located at 301 Breckenridge Road in Chatham, around 11 miles south of Springfield, YNOT After School Camp was the catastrophic venue for this horrendous incident. The perpetrator, Chatham resident Marianne Akers, 44, careened her vehicle off the road, charged across a field, and barreled into the east side of the building before exiting on the west side.

The cause behind this tragic event is still being probed by Illinois State Police, who have indicated that it does not appear to be a targeted attack. Marianne Akers, who has since undergone toxicology tests, remains free while the test results are pending.
