Four-time Bayern Munich champion and ex-Bundesliga coach, the late Coordes, has passed away.

Egon Coordes, the legendary figure in German football, has passed away at the age of 80. Known primarily for his outstanding roles with FC Bayern Munich's coaching staff, the man who worked closely with Jupp Heynckes, Udo Lattek, and Giovanni Trapattoni, shared his final breath in his hometown of Memmingen on Tuesday. Kicker originally reported the news.

Beyond his exceptional tenure as FC Bayern assistant, Coordes had a multifaceted career spanning various clubs and countries. As a player, he accumulated 157 Bundesliga appearances for Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart, scoring nine goals in the process. Post-retirement, Coordes transitioned to coaching, albeit with mixed success in head roles at VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV, and Hannover 96.

Coordes, however, made his mark as a football educator and fitness expert, working internationally - across Austria, Switzerland, the Gulf region, and even briefly in Iran in 1999. Worth noting is his role as manager of the Iranian Olympic team, a testament to the global reach of his influence.

Interestingly, Coordes' proficiency extended beyond football, evident in his coaching stint with Bayern Munich's basketball team (2011-2012). His influence was palpable, significantly contributing to Bayern's dominant era during the 1980s and 1990s, which resulted in four Bundesliga championships (1985, 1986, 1989, 1990).

In a typical sporting landscape that celebrates the success of head coaches, Coordes carved out a niche for himself as a renowned assistant coach and fitness expert, making him a figure of respect across varied football cultures. While his head coaching tenures may have yielded mixed results, Egon Coordes' influential legacy endures, grounded in his profound impact on one of Europe's most illustrious clubs and beyond.
