In a shocking turn of events, the masked rapper known as C. Gambino, whose real name was Karar Ramadan, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in a parking garage in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 4, 2024. The 26-year-old artist should not be confused with the American rapper Childish Gambino.

The court described the shooting as "akin to an execution," causing severe suffering to the victim. Four men aged 19 to 22 were charged in connection with the murder. Two were accused of "murder or aiding and abetting murder," though the court could not definitively prove that they fired the killing shots. Three men were found guilty of accessory to the murder, with at least one receiving a life sentence.

C. Gambino, who was named hip hop artist of the year at the 2024 Swedish recording industry's Grammis Awards the month before his murder, was reportedly not directly involved in any criminal activities. However, the investigation revealed that people in his entourage were linked to criminal networks.

The crime had its origins in a conflict between criminal networks, a problem that has been plaguing Sweden in recent years. Weekly occurrences of shootings and bombings have become common in the Scandinavian country. In a related incident, another award-winning Swedish rapper, Einar, was shot and killed in Stockholm in a gang conflict in October 2021.

A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison for aiding and abetting murder and aggravated harboring of a criminal. Another man, aged 21, was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison for aiding and abetting murder. A fourth man, aged 19, was handed a 10-month prison term for protecting a criminal and vandalism.

The investigation revealed that C. Gambino had participated in the planning and preparation of the murder, notably by providing the car used by the perpetrators. The court stressed the severity of the crime, highlighting that it stemmed from conflicts between criminal networks and was particularly aggravated due to the use of firearms in a public place.

The tragic death of C. Gambino serves as a stark reminder of the escalating violence in Sweden and the need for effective measures to combat gang-related crimes. The Swedish authorities have been under pressure to address the rising crime rates and improve public safety. The investigation into C. Gambino's murder is ongoing, and more details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

  1. "The shocking murder of C. Gambino, who was enthralling audiences with his music and recently recognized as hip hop artist of the year, has raised concerns about the escalating violence in Sweden, particularly in the realm of crime-and-justice and general-news."
  2. "The sentencing of four individuals in connection with C. Gambino's murder highlights the severe penalties for those involved in criminal activities, especially those in the music industry, such as aiding and abetting murder, accessory to the murder, and aggravated harboring of a criminal, as well as related crimes like vandalism and unlawful possession of firearms."
