Dead Birds of Prey Found at Inn Bridge - Police Investigating - Four Protected Birds of Prey Found Dead in Neuhaus, Poison Suspected

Four dead birds of prey were discovered on a bridge over the Inn in Neuhaus am Inn, with police suspecting poisoning as the cause. This incident follows an earlier event this summer where 17 dead birds of prey were found in Simbach near Landau. The birds are strictly protected, and killing them is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine.

Police suspect the birds were poisoned with Carbofuran, a plant protection agent banned in the EU for years. A 64-year-old from the Rottal-Inn district is suspected of laying out poison baits in Simbach. The use of Carbofuran is illegal in Germany, and such cases are investigated in collaboration between police, Naturschutzbehörden, and the Bayerisches Landesamt für Umwelt. Anyone finding dead birds or suspecting poisoned baits should inform the police or Naturschutzbehörde immediately.

As of October 2025, there are no widely known or confirmed cases of a suspect involved in the deaths of falcons in Simbach bei Landau using Carbofuran or setting poison baits. However, the illegal use of Carbofuran is a serious issue in Germany and is punishable by law. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
