Four Men on Trial for Alleged Attempted Manslaughter and Grievous Bodily Harm

Four men are standing trial in Neubrandenburg, Germany, for charges of attempted manslaughter and causing dangerous bodily harm. The trial, which began on Friday, is taking place at the local regional court.

According to the prosecution, the alleged assault occurred on the evening of February 20 in Malchin. The defendants, aged 24, 26, 27, and 42, are accused of using a baseball bat and their fists during the attack.

The victims of the assault are currently aged 37 and 43. The younger victim was able to drag himself to a house and witnesses called for help. The 26-year-old defendant has been in custody since early March, while the 27-year-old defendant has been in custody since late February.

The prosecution alleges that the defendants attacked the victims without warning. Even after the victims fell to the ground, the 26- and 27-year-old defendants are said to have continued the attack with the bat and their fists. The court has noted that blows to the head with a baseball bat can be life-threatening.

The trial is expected to last for eight more trial dates, with the proceedings scheduled until mid-October. The arrest warrants for the other two defendants were reportedly suspended.

The defendants face serious charges and the court will carefully assess the facts to determine their culpability. For the latest and most detailed updates, monitoring local German news sources or official court announcements would provide ongoing information as the case develops.
