Four young individuals, hailing from Germany, were recently released from custody in Mallorca, Spain, ending their over year-long pre-trial detention. According to reliable sources in Palma, reported to dpa, this group was accused of being involved in a group sexual assault incident at Ballermann beach.

The incident allegedly involved coercing an 18-year-old German woman into sexual activity or standing by without intervening. One of the suspects is said to have videotaped the event on his phone in July 2023.

The five suspects, aged between 21 and 23, were caught by police in Mallorca under suspicion of group sexual assault. They were originally from North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically the Märkischer Kreis in Sauerland. Despite their release, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hagen continues to pursue charges against them, as acknowledged on Wednesday.

One of the tourists' associates managed to secure early release due to offering evidence of his innocence in the alleged sexual assault.

Despite their release, the investigation into the case is far from over. In Spain, convictions for such acts can lead to imprisonment for up to 12 years.

The group sexual assault allegations have been the primary focus of their detention in Mallorca. Regardless of their release, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hagen persists in pressing charges against them, emphasizing the gravity of the accusations.
