Four lads from Germany saw their imprisonment in Mallorca come to an end after over a year of pre-trial detention.
According to reliable sources in Palma, these young men, suspected of participating in a group sexual assault, were granted bail. As reported by dpa, they allegedly coerced or stood by without intervening as an 18-year-old German woman was subjected to such activities at Ballermann beach. One of the suspects is believed to have recorded the incident using his phone in July 2023.
Five individuals, aged between 21 and 23 at the time, were apprehended on Mallorca due to suspicions of group sexual assault. They hail from North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically the Märkischer Kreis in Sauerland. Despite the release of several suspects, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hagen continues to pursue charges against the remaining individuals, as stated on Wednesday.
One of the Germans' associates was freed early due to presenting evidence demonstrating his lack of involvement in the alleged sexual assault.
Regardless of the release of the suspects, the investigations will persist. A conviction in Spain for such crimes can result in a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
The group sexual assault allegations have been at the heart of this detention in Mallorca. Despite the granting of bail, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hagen remains committed to prosecuting the individuals, highlighting the gravity of the accusation.
