Four lads from Germany, under suspicion of partaking in a collective sexual assault, have been granted temporary freedom after spending over a year in a Mallorcan prison. These vacationers have found themselves under the microscope for pressuring an 18-year-old German girl, whom one of them had met at Ballermann beach, into consensual or non-consensual sexual activities. The Spanish authorities accuse one of the suspects of recording the incident on his mobile device in July 2023.
Arrested on Mallorca for suspected gang rape, the quintet ranged in age from 21 to 23. Sources confirmed by dpa that they hailed from North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically the Märkischer Kreis region in Sauerland. The Hagen public prosecutor's office continues their investigation against the five, as announced on Wednesday.
Earlier, one member of the German gang had been discharged early. At the time, it was reported that he had successfully established his innocence related to the alleged assault.
The release of all suspects does not denote the conclusion of the case. The investigation will persist, utilizing the existing information. Spanish law enforces a maximum sentence of 12 years imprisonment for individuals found guilty of such offenses.
The suspect who was discharged earlier also hailed from North Rhine-Westphalia, specific to the same region as the other four German lads. Despite being set free, the German party continues to face investigation for the purported assault in Spain.
