Formula One races to be held in Singapore, Zandvoort, and Montreal as sprint events for the first time in 2026
The world of Formula 1 is gearing up for an exciting 2026 season, with significant changes in store. One of the most notable changes is the introduction of sprint races every weekend, a feature that has proven popular in MotoGP for six years.
The teams participating in the 2026 Formula 1 sprint races include established names like McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Alpine, Haas, Racing Bulls, Williams, Audi (formerly Sauber), and newcomers Cadillac. Audi will join as a new manufacturer with drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, while Cadillac enters with Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
The sprint season will kick off at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8, followed by races in Shanghai, Miami, and Silverstone, among others. Notably, Zandvoort, Singapore, and Montreal will host Formula One sprint races for the first time in 2026.
The 2026 season will also see a major manufacturer shakeup in power units. Red Bull will partner with Ford, while Aston Martin receives exclusive Honda engines. Audi and Cadillac will enter as new manufacturers with their proprietary power units.
The sprint races will offer more action each day for fans, broadcast partners, and promoters, driving increased attendance and viewership. The sprint qualifying takes place on Friday after the first practice session, with the sprint race and qualifying for the main grand prix taking place on Saturday. Winners of the sprint race will receive eight points, with one point given to the driver finishing eighth.
As for the current season, McLaren is currently dominating the 2025 F1 season. Oscar Piastri is leading his teammate Lando Norris by 31 points ahead of the 17th round in Azerbaijan this weekend. The British Grand Prix will take place in July, while the Canadian Grand Prix will take place in May.
The F1 Sprint has continued to grow in positive impact and popularity since its introduction in 2021. The races offer a thrilling addition to the weekend's events, providing an extra dose of excitement for fans. With the 2026 season promising even more action and changes, Formula 1 fans are in for a treat.
