Norris, who came close to matching Piastri's time, conceded, "Oscar did a great job, and I had a few small mistakes. I would have liked an easy race, but now it's going to be exciting."
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen will start from third, ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton. Nico Hülkenberg in the Sauber was eliminated early, while Yuki Tsunoda failed to impress for Red Bull once more.
The pole position in Barcelona historically holds significant importance, with around 70 percent of the wins here coming from the first starting position, compared to just over 50 percent at Monaco. Despite the FIA introducing stricter front wing rules to challenge McLaren's dominance, the battle for the advantage thus far has been a McLaren exclusive, much to the dismay of competitors.
