Formula One legend Michael Schumacher on the verge of returning to competitive racing

The Miami Grand Prix might've passed without Mick Schumacher, but his name remains a hot topic in the paddock. It seems General Motors and their subsidiary, Cadillac, are eyeing the Formula 1 landscape, and Schumacher just might be on their radar.
Cadillac plans to dive into Formula 1 from 2026, starting with hybrid powertrains from Ferrari. Eventually, they'll switch to home-grown engines in 2029. The team is mulling over potential drivers, and Schumacher could be one of them.
Currently, Schumacher is causing quite a stir in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). With impressive performances, he recently secured a podium finish with Alpine at Imola, cementing himself as a key driver there. His F1-like prototype performances have also garnered internal praise with his team.
According to Schumacher, "The Formula 1 is still an important part of my career. If I get another chance, I will take it." When it comes to Schumacher, there seems to be some backing from within the team as well. Teammate, Jules Gounon, shares, "He deserves a comeback. Some things that happened to him were not fair."
Graeme Lowden, leading the project at Cadillac, acknowledges the competition for drivers, stating, "There are many hungry drivers out there, and Mick definitely belongs to that group." However, notable competition includes Sergio Pérez, who comes with experience and sponsors, like Heineken.
Other potential drivers include Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, both currently at Sauber, and Colton Herta from the IndyCar series, though his championship ranking might not grant him the necessary super license.
While Mick Schumacher might not have a cockpit just yet, he boasts prominent supporters. Former Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost asserts, "If it's not too late for Mick, he would be a good choice for Cadillac." Even former Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, suggests, "The name Schumacher has enormous appeal in the USA. The Formula 1 could use him."
As Cadillac moves towards its Formula 1 debut, they'll be choosing from a mix of experienced drivers and promising talents. Will Mick Schumacher get another chance at Formula 1? Only time will tell.
