In a surprising turn of events, George Russell, the Mercedes F1 driver, seems to acknowledge Max Verstappen, his Red Bull rival, despite the heated encounter at the Spanish Grand Prix. Tensions eased at an airport rendezvous, with the anger from Barcelona evaporating like morning dew.

Verstappen's impulsive act during the Spanish Grand Prix left Russell in a comfortable fourth position and himself in tenth, following a ten-second penalty and two penalty points. Analogizing his gratitude, Russell expressed to the BBC, "His actions cost him something, and they helped me. So, I should almost thank him. But it's good to see that he's taken responsibility, which has surprised me a bit."

Threatened with a race ban for another offense, Verstappen's upcoming races at the Canadian Grand Prix and the following one in Austria demand self-restraint. Russell confidently predicts, "If he gets his twelve points, that wouldn't be unfair. That's why it's there."

Post-race, an apologetic Verstappen expressed on Instagram, "Our tire choice at the end of the race and some actions after the safety car have increased my frustration, leading to a maneuver that was not right and should not have happened." Emotions can sometimes "boil over," he admitted.

Russell's competitive spirit remains undeterred, asserting, "I'll drive the same way as before." Such moments enrich the sport, adding "a bit of spice" for fans, especially the neutrals.

The airport encounter, a week following the race, apparently helped Russell move on. "I completely forgot about Barcelona because he was there with his newborn daughter," Russell shared. After formalities, the two had "a brief conversation." Verstappen was spotted folding the stroller, engrossed in fatherly duties.
