Formula One driver, Sebastian Vettel, announces retirement from racing competition.
In a surprising yet anticipated move, four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel has decided to step away from the racing circuit, paving the way for the younger generation to take centre stage.
Vettel, who became a household name with his impressive victories in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 while racing for Red Bull, has confirmed that he will not return to Formula 1 as a driver. His retirement at the end of 2022 marks the end of an era for the sport.
Since his departure, Vettel has been dedicating much of his time to environmental and sustainability projects. He has also ventured into the world of sailing, becoming a co-owner of the Germany SailGP sailing team.
Despite occasional flirtations with the idea of a possible return to Formula 1, Vettel's decision to leave the sport is not a vote against the old drivers but a vote for the young ones. He did not express interest in who of the established drivers was no longer driving, as long as he could drive.
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, has suggested that Vettel could be a successor in another role, but there is no confirmation on this front. Marko's primary focus is on maintaining a strong team lineup, and there is no indication that Vettel is being considered for a non-driving role within Red Bull.
Vettel's current focus is more on exploring other racing opportunities, particularly in endurance racing. He has expressed interest in competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans or the World Endurance Championship.
Vettel made his racing debut with BMW in 2007 and switched to Toro Rosso before being promoted to Red Bull for the 2009 season. His successful stint with Red Bull saw him win a total of 53 Grand Prix. However, after his time at Red Bull, Vettel did not achieve the same success at Ferrari and Aston Martin.
Despite his departure from Formula 1, Vettel's love for racing remains undiminished. He is a father of three and is looking forward to balancing his passion for racing with his family life.
As Vettel embarks on this new chapter of his life, fans can look forward to seeing him in new racing series and continuing his work in environmental and sustainability projects. His legacy in Formula 1 will undoubtedly live on, and his impact on the sport will be felt for years to come.
