Formula One ace Piastri outshines competition at the Belgian Grand Prix, securing the top spot, with Norris and Leclerc finishing second and third respectively.
The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix, held under heavy rain and initial red-flag conditions, saw McLaren's Oscar Piastri triumphantly take the chequered flag. Piastri's win marks his sixth of the season, extending his lead in the championship.
The race began behind the Safety Car, with drivers starting on Intermediate tyres. Piastri, starting from pole position, quickly took control, while Max Verstappen, attempting to chase down Charles Leclerc, found it challenging to close the gap significantly.
Leclerc, Piastri, and Verstappen made their first pit stops during lap 12, all switching to medium tires at that time. Piastri reported feeling tyre degradation and expressed concerns about making it to the end on his Medium tyres. However, with good tyre life in reserve, Leclerc was able to maintain a gap of 1.5 seconds over Verstappen in the final two laps.
Meanwhile, Liam Lawson scored good points for Racing Bulls with eighth place, while Gabriel Bortoleto finished ninth. Pierre Gasly finished in twelfth place, one lap behind the winner, Piastri. Isack Hadjar finished one lap behind the leaders, in eleventh place.
Lando Norris gradually began to eat into Piastri's lead, eventually getting within five seconds of him with five laps left. However, Piastri held on to win the race, with George Russell taking fifth place, ahead of Alexander Albon and Lewis Hamilton.
The race resumed after a delay of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Charles Leclerc finished third for Ferrari, while Oliver Bearman of Mercedes finished in thirteenth place, one lap and twelve-tenths of a second behind Gasly.
Further down the field, Nico Hülkenberg finished in fourteenth place, one lap and thirteen-sixteenths of a second behind Bearman. Carlos Sainz finished in nineteenth place, one lap and thirty-two-tenths of a second behind Alonso. Franco Colapinto finished in twentieth place, one lap and thirty-five-and-a-half seconds behind Sainz.
Esteban Ocon finished in sixteenth place, one lap and nineteen-eighths of a second behind Tsunoda. Yuki Tsunoda finished in fifteenth place, one lap and fifteen-fourths of a second behind Hülkenberg. Fernando Alonso finished in eighteenth place, one lap and twenty-seven-tenths of a second behind Antonelli. Kimi Antonelli finished in seventeenth place, one lap and twenty-six-tenths of a second behind Ocon.
In a noteworthy move during the race, George Russell passed Alex Albon. Lewis Hamilton, who started the race from the pit lane and later switched to Medium tyres, finished the race in sixteenth place.
The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix was a testament to Piastri's resilience and skill, as he navigated the challenging conditions to secure yet another victory. The championship race is heating up, with Piastri now leading by 16 points over Lando Norris. The next race promises to be an exciting showdown between these two formidable drivers.
