Formula E: Moscow ePrix Canceled Amidst Unexpected Circumstances
The Moskau Electric Grand Prix has been called off
The event takes place on June 4th
The next Formula E race is scheduled for May 21st in Berlin
Organizers of the all-electric racing series announced on Friday that "unforeseen circumstances" forced the cancellation of the Moscow Electric Grand Prix, which was planned for Saturday, June 4th.
"Due to the latest unforeseen circumstances related to street closures, Formula E has decided to not hold the race in Moscow's capital", reads a statement on the Formula E's official website.
Last year, Nelson Piquet Jr. emerged victorious in the inaugural Moscow contest, as drivers raced against each other on a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) city course nearby Moscow's landmarks, including the Red Square and the Kremlin.
Formula E Chief Alejandro Agag admitted efforts to find an alternative venue had proven unsuccessful.
"We've explored every option, even a return to Monaco, but unfortunately, we couldn't manage a short-term relocation", Agag said in a statement.
"We will now focus our attention on the three remaining races in Berlin and the double-header in London, which will undoubtedly provide an exciting conclusion to the title race."
Lucas di Grassi, Abt Schaeffler driver, currently leads the championship with an 11-point advantage over Renault e.Dams rival Sébastien Buemi.

The cancellation of the ninth round of the 2015–16 World Championship takes place two weeks after the historic Paris ePrix enjoyed a successful debut with 20,000 spectators lining the streets around Les Invalides in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.
"This circuit is fantastic, it's now one of my favorites", said the reigning Formula-E champion Piquet Jr. in an interview with CNN. "The atmosphere, the people, the celebrities, it's a race worth attending. It must finish in the top three, maybe one of the best."
Fans who gathered to watch the spectacle were impressed by the new series, which is entering its second season.
"I think Formula E is a lot of fun", said Lisa Barthelemy in an interview with CNN. "This is a premiere in Paris. I hope there will be more editions. It's very future-oriented."
The eighth round of the truncated, 10-race World Championship takes place on May 21st in Berlin, with the final two rounds on the first weekend of July in London's Battersea Park.
