Formula E Championship's Stop in Shanghai, China: Manufacturer Ranking Points Accumulated by Customer Team Cupra Kiro for Porsche
During the Shanghai E-Prix held on June 1, 2025, Cupra Kiro secured valuable points for Porsche in the manufacturers' championship with a strong fourth-place finish by Dan Ticktum. Despite missing out on another podium finish, Ticktum showed a remarkable performance after starting from 21st position.
The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team's drivers had a less successful day as they failed to make it into the points. World champion Pascal Wehrlein ended the race in 12th place, while António Félix da Costa finished 13th after improving by four positions during the race. Wehrlein had a strong qualifying performance with a third-place finish, extending his qualifying record to 35 times making it into the duels.
During the race, the teams carried out mandatory pit stops for fast charging, with the Porsche 99X Electric WCG3 loading 3.85 kWh of energy at a charging power of 600 kW. This charging system, represented by the CCS (Combined Charging System), symbolizes a technology transfer to series production, with the connector and socket used by the racing vehicle being identical to those on Porsche electric street vehicles.
Following the Shanghai E-Prix, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship standings show Oliver Rowland leading the Drivers' Championship with 171 points, a 68-point advantage over his closest rival. Nissan Formula E Team is in second place in the Teams’ Standings, just one point behind the leading team. In the Manufacturers’ Standings, Nissan holds the top spot with 285 points.
Florian Modlinger, Director of the Formula E project, expressed disappointment with the results, stating, "The result is hard to digest, especially after the good pace in training and Pascal's P3 in qualifying. António had a tough time...Now we have to analyze the details - and we need to be much better for the upcoming races."
The next event for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will take place during the Shanghai E-Prix on June 1, 2025 (Race 11 of the season).
António Félix da Costa might have found another opportunity for a podium finish in other sports, given his improvement by four positions during the race. The other teams, however, were observed to be using the CCS (Combined Charging System) for fast charging, a technology that may also be applied to other racing sports.
