Fiery Finale: Porsche Sharpens Its Teeth in Sizzling Jakarta

As temperatures soar and humidity hangs heavy, the electrifying world of Formula E heads to the stormy city of Jakarta for a grueling battle in the damp and sweltering heat. Porsche, leading the pack in the team championship, prepares for the final sprint of the season, armed with valuable experience and championship points under their belt. With the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric, World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and teammate António Félix da Costa have amassed more fastest race laps than any other duo, collecting a total of five bonus points.

Unlike the previous three race weekends, this time only one race is on the docket in Jakarta. However, Porsche’s history of success in single events suggests they’re a force to be reckoned with in the Indonesian capital. In fact, the team has secured five out of six possible podium places in São Paulo, Mexico City, and Miami, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force.

Porsche's Past Glories in Jakarta

With a mix of rain and high temperatures, Porsche made its mark on the Formula E scene in Jakarta. Two years ago, the team experienced a resounding victory, with Pascal Wehrlein taking the checkered flag in the Saturday race, besting Jake Dennis. In the second race of the doubleheader, Dennis snagged second place in the Porsche customer car for Andretti, while Wehrlein managed a sixth-place finish. Da Costa finished eighth and seventh in the two races, notching points both times.

The Tight and Technical Twists of Jakarta

The Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit is a temporary city track located in the northern part of the Indonesian capital, close to the coast. The 2.370-kilometer course boasts 18 hairpin turns, two long straights, and a central section with quick direction changes, making it one of the most challenging circuits on the Formula E calendar. The final sector, featuring a tight hairpin turn and a challenging left curve, is especially demanding. The braking zone before the first turn presents the best opportunity for overtaking.

Racing Kings on European Shores

For Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa, the Jakarta E-Prix marks the second major event in just a week. The previous weekend saw both Porsche drivers take on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Wehrlein piloted the Porsche 963 with starting number 4 alongside Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, finishing a commendable ninth in the top class. Da Costa claimed ninth place in the LMP2 class with a private team.
