Frisch Auf Göppingen Bids Farewell to Former World Champion Coach Baur

Markus Baur, former handball world champion, will no longer be the coach of Frisch Auf Göppingen starting from the 2024/25 season. The Bundesliga club announced this on Saturday, citing the need for planning security and future requirements as the reasons for their decision.

Sporting director Christian Schöne explained, "We made this decision at an early stage to create a sense of security for all parties involved." The team, currently at the 16th position in the table after 14 games, suffered a loss to HC Erlangen on Friday evening (26:28).

Baur took over the coaching position at Göppingen about a year ago, managing to lead the club to the European League Final Four during the previous season, which was largely unsuccessful in the Bundesliga.

Gerd Hofele, managing director of the club, revealed that the team had thoroughly analyzed the sporting performances and results in the Bundesliga and the forthcoming challenges. After thorough evaluation, they decided to make a change in the coaching position for the upcoming season.

With Baur moving on, Frisch Auf Göppingen will be on the lookout for a new coach for the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. While Baur led Göppingen to the European League Final Four the previous season, the team's recent performance and future challenges have prompted a change in the coaching position.

Potential Coaching Candidates

As Frisch Auf Göppingen searches for a new coach, several candidates could be considered. These include:

  1. Velimir Kljaić: Known for his work with VfL Gummersbach, Kljaić brings a wealth of German handball experience.
  2. Sead Hasanefendić: Another experienced coach with a background in German handball, Hasanefendić could offer the necessary expertise.
  3. Kristian Kristensen: As the head coach of KIF Kolding, Kristensen has demonstrated his ability to lead a team effectively. His youth and dynamism could bring a fresh perspective to Frisch Auf Göppingen.
  4. Bilal Šuman: A former player with coaching experience, Šuman's knowledge of the game and player connection skills could benefit Frisch Auf Göppingen.

The search for a new coach is influenced by various factors:

  1. Stability and Continuity: A new coach can provide consistency, ensuring the team's performance remains consistent.
  2. New Strategies and Tactics: The new coach may introduce fresh strategies and tactics to revitalize the team's performance.
  3. Player Development: The new coach can focus on developing the team's young players, ensuring a bright future for the club.
  4. Improved Team Dynamics: A new coach can foster a positive, cohesive team environment.
  5. Competition in the Bundesliga: The Bundesliga is highly competitive. The new coach should be able to adapt quickly to the league's demands and challenges.

By considering these factors and potential candidates, Frisch Auf Göppingen can find a coach that not only suits their immediate needs but also sets them up for long-term success in the Bundesliga.
