Former State Dept. Official Michael Duffin Joins Virginia's 8th District Race
Michael Duffin, a former State Department official, has thrown his hat into the ring for the Democratic nomination in Virginia's 8th Congressional District. His announcement brings the total number of democratic candidates to three.
Duffin, 47, a resident of Alexandria's West End, is no stranger to public service. He spent 12 years at the State Department, including nearly a decade in the Bureau of Counterterrorism, earning multiple awards for his service.
His platform focuses on protecting federal workers, restoring U.S. aid programs, and providing economic relief for middle-class families. He also advocates for expanding student loan forgiveness. Duffin's entry into the race comes after he was terminated by the Trump administration in July 2021, along with approximately 1,300 foreign policy employees.
Duffin joins a growing field of democratic candidates, including a former Alexandria city councilman. His extensive experience in foreign policy and commitment to public service could shape the race for Virginia's 8th Congressional District.
