Logan Sargeant Returns to Motorsport with IMSA Series Debut
After a brief hiatus from Formula 1, Logan Sargeant is set to make a comeback in motorsport. The American racer will compete in the final two endurance rounds of the 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.
Sargeant's racing journey will resume at the six-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on September 21, 2025, and continue at the ten-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on October 11, 2025. He will drive the #52 Oreca 07 LMP2 car alongside teammates Benjamin Pedersen and Naveen Rao.
This marks Sargeant's first race appearance since his departure from Williams F1 following the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. After parting ways with Formula 1, Sargeant has joined Oliver Gavin's management company, focusing on his sportscar racing career. He aims to leverage his experience to contribute to strong team results in the IMSA LMP2 class.
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has expressed confidence in Sargeant's pace and is preparing to integrate him smoothly into the team. They have scheduled tests before the Indianapolis event to ensure a seamless transition.
Sargeant's return to motorsport comes after a critical incident during a comprehensive development phase at Williams F1, where he was involved in a crash in the third practice session in Zandvoort. This incident led to his replacement by Franco Colapinto before the end of the 2024 season.
Meanwhile, Colapinto's performance in Formula 1 has raised questions about his long-term suitability for the sport, as he has not scored any points in his seven appearances so far. It remains unclear if Colapinto's poor performance will lead to him being replaced at Williams.
In the meantime, Colapinto has joined Alpine as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, replacing Jack Doohan, who was dropped from the team starting from Imola in 2025. Carlos Sainz took Colapinto's place in Formula 1 for the 2025 season.
As Formula 1 bosses bring in a radical revolution, the future of motorsport continues to evolve. For Sargeant, however, his focus remains on his comeback in the IMSA series, determined to get his career back on track.
