Former pugilist secures victories in Hull and East Yorkshire mayoral races

In the 2025 mayoral elections, Reform party made some major strides, scoring victories in two of the year's six mayoral contests – a first for their party. These contests included metro mayors and city mayors across several regions.

There were a total of four combined authority mayors, also known as metro mayors, and two city mayors up for grabs. Two of the newly-elected mayors will represent Hull and East Yorkshire combined authorities, and Greater Lincolnshire, with the remaining mayoralties retaining their previous incumbents when last contested in 2021.

Let's break it down further:

Metro Mayors

  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough: The Conservative candidate secured the win with 60,243 votes, trumping Reform's candidate, who got 49,647.
  • Greater Lincolnshire: Reform's candidate clinched the victory with 104,133 votes against the Conservative's 64,585.
  • Hull and East Yorkshire: Olympic gold medalist boxer Luke Campbell secured the win for Reform with a comfortable margin of 10,981 votes, followed closely by the Liberal Democrats.
  • West of England: Labour managed to maintain their hold on the mayoralty, although Reform narrowed the margin significantly.

City Mayors

  • Doncaster: The incumbent Labour mayor narrowly held onto their seat, edging out the Reform candidate by just 698 votes.
  • North Tyneside: Labour also managed to hold onto their mayoral seat with an even slimmer margin of just 444 votes, with Reform finishing a close second place.

All these mayoralties were elected through the first-past-the-post electoral system, the same system used for Westminster parliamentary elections. For a more detailed breakdown of these results, continue reading below.
