Former Prime Minister of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Yuri Lapshin, has been requested to serve 6 years in prison.
Revised Article:
The accusations against ex-Krasnoyarsk regional government head Yury Lapshin mean a potential six-year jail term for him in a general-security prison, according to the prosecution.
Today marked the "metro case" trial at the Central District Court. Apart from Lapshin, Konstantin Mandrov, the ex-head of the regional transport management body, KGKU, stood accused.
The prosecutor revealed that the trial's delay was due to the assessment of Lapshin's health condition, as he suffers from a severe illness.
Let's remind you that the verdict for the former premier was initially planned for June, but the judge chose to restart the investigation and schedule a medical examination. In December, a commission medical examination found no obstacles to the jailed Lapshin serving his sentence and enduring real prison time.
Currently, the prosecution believes there are no further obstacles preventing the issuance of the final decision.
Consequently, the prosecutor requested a six-year prison sentence for Lapshin, considering his health issues as mitigating circumstances.
The prosecution also petitioned the court to strip Lapshin of his right to hold public office for 2.5 years.
In Mandrov's case, the prosecution demands 12 years in a strict-regimen prison for accepting bribes and exceeding his authority, in addition to a 10 million ruble fine and a four-year ban on holding positions in state and municipal institutions. The prosecution also seeks to seize a 5 million ruble bribe for the federal budget.
Defense hearings for the ex-government head are scheduled for the week starting 28th February. Today, the defense argued for changing the nature of Lapshin's action from abuse of power to negligence.
