Former police department district head to face trial for illegally granting residency to numerous migrants.
In the gritty Chelyabinsk region, a one-time cop now finds themselves in hot water, charged with corruption and criminal deeds in the shady realm of unauthorized immigration.
According to reports by the Novy Day news agency, the media representatives of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Chelyabinsk region have announced they've wrapped up the probe into a former head of the migration department of the Sосновский district police department. This ex-cop is charged with heading a underhanded scheme, manipulating illegal migration, cooking up bogus documents, receiving illicit payoffs for shady activities, and abusing their position of power.
Undercover work by employees of the FSB and the OCDB of the regional GU MVD of Russia shed light on this sordid affair. The defendant, part of a clandestine gang, facilitated the illicit entry and stay of foreigners in Russia. This malicious officer also manipulated migrant registration at their ostensible homes in Sосновsky district.
In 2023, a gaggle of 15 foreigners scored certificates of participation in the state program of aid for voluntary resettlement in Russia, using bogus papers to claim their work experience and education. With these phony docs in hand, the migrants and their families gained access to the country and later found it easier to be naturalized, thanks to this unscrupulous cop's misdeeds.
In 2024, four foreign citizens were fraudulently logged at residences in Sосновsky district where they never actually resided.
What's more, from September 2023 to April 2024, this disreputable officer made it a breeze for 62 foreigners to obtain Russian citizenship thanks to streamlined document processing. They were then funneled to authorized persons for a decision on granting citizenship.
For these low blows, the former head of the migration department reaped over 140,000 rubles in bribes, both in cold, hard cash and under-the-table services.
Now, the crooked corridors of justice await, as the criminal case has been handed over to the courts after the indictment was approved.
Criminal collaborations with the malefactors are currently under scrutiny in the courts.
